SACHI, the Society for Art and Cultural Heritage of India, a nonprofit, educational and charitable organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, was formed to serve as a forum for promoting the understanding and appreciation of the richness and diversity of the art, culture and heritage of India. SACHI receives the guidance of an international group of eminent leaders and scholars of Indian art and culture.
SACHI celebrates ten years since its inauguration in September 1997. Since its inception the organization has adhered to its commitment to bring unique and outstanding programs to the Bay Area community.
Of special note is the success it has attained in cultivating important alliances with other major cultural institutions like the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, and the Palo Alto Arts Center in the arena of visual arts, and with distinguished music and dance academies in the performing arts. The longstanding associations with leading educational organizations like Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Mills College, and more recently, with the California Institute of Integral Studies, have enabled SACHI to implement its educational mission with a high degree of professionalism. SACHI programs have found a unique place in the larger vision and agenda of university settings.
The most significant role of the organization lies in bridging the community with the arts, culture and heritage of India through programs of excellence with distinguished scholars, performers and artists, and in building an awareness that promotes these links. SACHI is an invaluable resource connecting community, cultural and educational institutions to further the goals of a shared interest in Indian culture and heritage.
